About Me

I am, or at least that's what I've been led to believe. I live in a fluffy purple cloud filled with fantasy, but once in a while I peek outside, take a look at the darkness that surrounds me and embrace it.

I write fantasy for fun, work for the enemy for money and was trained as a scientist to satisfy my curiosity.

  1. My OCD.

    Shan,

How do you know it isn’t OCD? Odds are you’re right and this person is jumping into the bandwagon of fashionable psychiatric disorders, but the possibility of this person having a real disease can’t be discarded that easily (unless you know the person in real life). Why do I say this? OCD is not about the quirks, it’s about anxiety and behavior that interferes with your life. Looking out the shower curtains while you shower might be an unimpressive human trait, but if it gets to the point where you never get to finish your shower then it is very likely to be OCD. Plus, even if the person doesn’t have the full blown disorder as it is commonly known, he or she might be showing OCD traits or might have another variety of OCD such as “Pure O” (OCD without overt compulsions). in any case, without further details about this person’s life there’s no way to guess whether or not the disorder is present.

Every time I use the bathroom, I always have to leave the shower curtains opened.

When I shower, I always look out the shower curtains, thinking someones there.
Going in the kitchen, opening the fridge.
Walking in department stores and not walking on the lines/cracks.
When I put my shoes on, my right shoe always has to go on first.
Putting my hands in between my cooch to warm them up.
    Always crossing my legs.
Having my period in school, and asking someone if it went through. [Butt check]
    To be continued..

I’m sorry [actually I’m not, it just makes this sound nicer] but that is not OCD. Not by a long shot. Everyone was random habits. I look out my window every 10 minutes even if I have no reason to. My soap has to be on one side of the tub, and my scrubby on the other, and if they touch when they’re not supposed to I freak the hell out. I can’t stand even numbers for the life of me so I do my best to make sure nothing I do comes out even. But that’s not OCD. It’s called being human.

I’m so disgustingly tired of people claiming this-and-that disorder/illness, especially when they don’t even know what it is but saw it on TV a few times so now they’re an expert. Even if they’re “just kidding,” it makes people [like the OP (no serious offense to you)] look incredibly ignorant on the topic and completely foolish in general. It also makes those who have a serious issue with said disorder look like they’re intentionally over-exaggerating, thus causing people to think the disorder is fake versus over/mis-diagnosed.

Stop trying to get attention by saying you have XYZ Disorder. Just say “YO! I DO WEIRD SHIT!” and keep it moving. You’re nothing spectacular, and claiming you have something doesn’t boost that. Like I said before, it basically makes you look stupid.
